Personally I have used Ipecacuanha in the treatment of hepatitis since I first came to India : I remember, as a student, its value was very much impressed upon me, even though my teachers had probably very little experience of it themselves. Maclean, I think, first emphasized the value of Ipecacuanha in large doses in both hepatitis and dysentery, recognizing a connection between the two : but I think it is good for us to have the home tiuth impressed upon us in the manner in which Col. Pilgrim has done in this method of treatment. It is not so very many years since the proper method of using quinine in malarial cases had to be impressed upon the profession. I have been much struck with the success of large doses of Ipecacuanha (20-30 grains), in those cases of hepatitis in which suppuration seems to be threatening, but in which there is no
